The engine in the current (and for a while) Mitsubishi Triton. 4D56 turbo diesel. Makes about 8hp more and 70ft/lbs more than the pre-88 Starion. Engine redlines at 4000rpm which is very low comparatively just like the 4G53.
Of course you would need to convert the fuel system.
Apparently it’s been done according to this thread. In a rallycar Galant in Finland at that. There are videos of it doing burnouts and donuts.

Bear in mind that this is not a lightweight engine...so you’ll need to consider suspension work as well.

How about no......
Instead, add a front mount intercooler and crank up the boost. Trust me, my friends was a riot. My other friends is as well. Fun cars these.
